As previously announced, our second Fall webinar will feature Melanie Osley (bio below), an experienced Risk Manager and current member of the ASHRM Board of Directors. The webinar will take place at 12pm on Wednesday, November 18th.

 

Titled, What a Risk Manager Sees as an Emergency Patient During COVID, Melanie shares her unique perspective and insight into the patient experience and challenges dealt with by hospitals. Melanie Osley, RN, MBA, CPHRM, CPHQ, CPPS, ARM, DFASHRM is the Vice President of Risk Management and Insurance at Inspira Health Network.  She has been in the healthcare field for over 37 years, with 31 years spent in the areas of risk management, professional liability insurance, claims management, patient safety, quality improvement, corporate compliance, and patient experience. Her experience includes having owned a multi-state legal nurse consulting business, working in-house in defense law firms, and serving as a hospital clinical risk manager, director, and vice president at rural, community, and large metropolitan academic multi-facility health systems in Connecticut, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.  Her professional liability insurance experience includes work as a senior claim representative, as well as a senior patient safety and risk management consultant for two medical professional liability insurance carriers. A frequent speaker on risk and patient safety topics, Melanie is also an author of multiple peer-reviewed publications, including being a co-author the captive management section of ASHRM’s Risk Financing Playbook.  Her 26 years of clinical nursing experience include nursing supervisor of a 600-bed academic hospital, as well as emergency room and critical care nursing, having held both CCRN, CEN, and ACLS instructor certifications. Melanie has a BS degree in law enforcement with a prior career on the Indiana State Police, and as a probation officer for misdemeanor offenders.  She also holds a BS in nursing from the University of Maryland, and an MBA in Healthcare Administration from City University in Seattle Washington. She is a past president of the Connecticut chapter of the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) and is a member of the ASHRM Board of Directors (2018-2021).
